Here is the official description of the OS on the Apple Store.

Upgrade from Mac OS X Leopard with Snow Leopard, a simpler, more powerful, and more refined version of Mac OS X. It delivers a wide range of enhancements, next-generation technologies, out-of-the-box support for Microsoft Exchange Server, and new accessibility features. It's the world's most advanced operating system, finely tuned from installation to shutdown.

There is quite a similarity between Mac OS X Snow Leopard and Windows 7 since both are refined versions of the OS preceding them.

Snow Leopard brings along a couple of new features too, such as 64-bit support, OpenCL support, QuickTime X, new Finder and a couple of additions to the feature-set of Expose, Stacks, iChat and Safari. Check out the Apple website for a complete list of refinements.
